Welcome Home

12 September 2019 – 5 January 2020

Curator: MACAAL

Drawn from MACAAL’s permanent collection, in addition to two installations by Amina Agueznay and Soukaina Aziz El Idrissi loaned for the occasion, Welcome Home intends to highlight the artists who have recently joined the Museum’s heritage.

The exhibition illustrates MACAAL’s desire to enrich its collection with new media while putting different traditions and perspectives into dialogue. The hand-embroidered photographs of Joana Choumali (Ivory Coast) thus meet the molten plastic sculpture of Julio Rizhi (Zimbabwe), the terracotta figures of Seyni Awa Camara (Senegal) and the large-scale tapestry of Paola Monzillo, handmade from maps of Latin American cities, acquired after the Uruguayan artist’s stay at the MACAAL Residence.

While emphasizing the role of the museum as a platform of global cross-cultural interactions, the Welcome Home group exhibition invites you to an original and captivating aesthetic experience.
